First Year Munster “A” soccer champions

History was made at St. Colmans Park, Cobh this past Friday, as a resolute Flannans team defeated Rochestown, Cork 4-2 on penalties to claim our very first win in this prestigious competition.

In what was a highly entertaining morning of soccer, our lads showed great character to emerge victorious after falling behind to a fortuitous goal for the Cork side towards the end of the first half. While genuine chances were scarce, it took a well taken penalty from Ben Lyne to restore parity after he had been fouled himself in the second half.

With the game finishing 1 each and after two nerve-racking goalless periods of extra time, a penalty shoot out was required to determine the winners. After two magnificent saves, Graham O Connor was the hero as St Flannans brought the trophy to North Munster for the first time in over a decade.

A massive congratulations to all involved – they now turn their attentions to an all Ireland semi final against St Jarlaths, Tuam this Tuesday.
