A Fond Farewell to Bishop Willie Walsh

The remains of Bishop Willie Walsh were brought from his home earlier today, where he was given a heartfelt farewell by the school community. Staff, residents, close friends, and members of the Harty Cup and Camogie teams stood in tribute to pay their final respects to a true gentleman. He will lie in repose in SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, Ennis, from 3 pm to 7 pm this evening. Remembering Bishop Willie Walsh

Bishop Emeritus of Killaloe, Willie Walsh, has sadly passed away at the age of 90. His loss is deeply felt across the diocese, where he was dearly loved for his kindness, wisdom, and dedication to ministry. He spent his entire priesthood serving in Ennis, including many years at St. Flannan’s College, in the Cathedral Parish, and later as Bishop of Killaloe. Even in retirement, he remained active in the community. Bishop Walsh was a teacher of Mathematics, Physics, and Religion at St. Flannan’s College for over 25 years. Winners of the Féile Luimnigh 2025 Speech & Drama Senior Competition at Mungret College

Sofia won the Marcel Marceau Cup for Solo Mime (Under 18) and the Edwards MacLiammoir Cup for Senior Dramatic Solo (Over 16). She also secured second place in the Senior Poetry Composition. Alex was awarded the Féile Luimnigh 2025 Senior Bursary and received the Joe O’Connor Memorial Cup. He also won the Treaty Trophy for Poetry Recital, the Anew McMaster Cup for his Shakespearean Monologue and Sonnet, and the Senior Poetry Composition category.
