Congratulations to two students from SFC who took part in the Stephen Spender Prize. This is the leading annual prize for poetry in translation, with categories for pupils, teachers and individual young people in the UK and Ireland. Both Zuzanna and Wiktoria were awarded commendations for their excellent translation from Polish into English in the 11-14 and 16-18 years old categories respectively, and teacher Ms Di Francesco won the overall Teacher Laureate Prize for her translation from French. Fr. Joe McMahon (RIP)

The St Flannan’s College school community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of our former college President, colleague and dear friend, Fr Joe McMahon. A native of Miltown Malbay, Joe sat his Leaving Certificate in 1966, achieving extraordinary results. Ordained to the priesthood in 1973, Joe returned to the college that same year where he joined the teaching staff. For the next four decades, St Flannan’s College would become his home, and while Joe would teach subjects like Irish and Latin, he would be best known for his many years as our Career Guidance Counsellor. Munster Schools Swimming Championships

Congratulations to all our swimmers who participated in the Munster Schools Swimming Championships at UL this weekend! A special shout-out to: Leana (6th year) who claimed the title of Munster Schools Swimming Champion in the 100m freestyle with a personal best time of 58 seconds and also won silver in the 100m butterfly. Sean (6th year), who achieved an incredible milestone by swimming under a minute in the 100m butterfly with a time of 59 seconds, earning him the bronze.
