Harty Cup Semi-Final

At 13:30 in Kilmallock on Wednesday, the atmosphere was immense. Both schools had brought large crowds to the game, and it had all the feels of an edgy Harty semi-final before throw-in.
What followed however, was a very one-sided game which took all energy out of the crowd by the end of the third quarter.
Gaelcholaiste Mhuire are a very young team and showed glimpses of really good play, cutting the Flannan’s defense open on a number of occasions, particularly early in the second half. However, the damage inflicted on them by a ruthless opening 25 minutes from the Flannan’s men was unrecoverable.
A scintillating start saw goals from Darragh Ball, Conor Ralph and Harry Doherty, along with several well taken points from a share of the forwards. A big lead within 23 minutes but with Flannan’s having taken the eye off the ball in the lead up to half time, the cork city men reminded us that they would punish us for any lapse in concentration when they rattled off 1-2 to make the scoreline look far more respectful.
A high energy third quarter demonstrated the will of the cork school to get back into the game but once our five substitutes were introduced, we seemed to take control again and went on win by 16 points.
Five years on from the school’s Harty Cup Triumph in 2020, we find ourselves dreaming of claiming the top spot in Munster Schools Hurling once again.
The final will take place on Saturday 1st February. Venue to be confirmed.
