Important Update on Student Online Trends

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We wanted to let you know about a trend we’ve seen among some students involving “ship” accounts (where students pair up potential couples) and FPL/Forfeit accounts (where students set challenges for each other). While these can start off as fun, sometimes they cross a line and can lead to bullying, harassment, or risky behaviour.

We encourage you to take a moment to chat with your child about how they engage with others online and remind them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

We also ask for your support in monitoring the content your child is accessing on apps and social media platforms. Many apps contain features that allow for anonymous posting, group challenges, or private messaging, which can increase the risk of harmful interactions. Regularly checking privacy settings, reviewing the apps your child uses, and having open conversations about what they see and share online can make a significant difference in keeping them safe.

Please see the attached poster for further advice and guidance.

Thank you for your continued support.
